There are some very important industrial design topics emerged in recent years and which will condition the

development of sports products for the coming years.

Performance

Consistent improvement in modern athletic performance has been greatly aided by continuous innovation

in equipment, training, nutrition and sports clothing. Over the years, sport has acquired high levels of

professionalism. This pressure that feeds the need for continued application and the search for new

technologies that will assist the athlete and consumers in achieving even better results. It is difficult to

imagine this trend changing in the future. There are many examples of technology playing a role in helping

professional athletes, amateur runners and armchair fans to improve their success and participation. It is

expected that innovation for sport performance will be increasingly driven by data/ information and that

products will become more intelligent (Internet of Things).

1) Nanotechnologies

Nano technology is expected to have a huge development in sport. At the moment many sports use

nanotechnologies and related benefits:

• Carbon nanotubes: tennis and badminton, golf, kayaking, archery

• Carbon nanofibers: cycling

• Nano-titanium: watercraft, tennis and badminton

• Nano-nickel: golf

• Nanofibers: several sports
