January 2015. The terrorist attack on Charlie Hebdo in
Paris. 12 people were killed by Chérif Kouachi and his
brother. How did the two terrorists finance their weapon
deals?? Too late it became evident that product piracy
played a role. Chérif Kouachi first caught the attention
of the French authorities by being a petty criminal who
had been selling counterfeit products. At this flea market
in the northern quarters of Paris large quantities of fake
products continue to be publicly offered for sale. He, who
would become a terrorist later on, already sold at this spot
fake Nike sneakers two years prior to the attacks and the
authorities had no idea at that time that a deadly attack
was on the way to be planned by him.
Official prosecution documents, which have been
made available to plusminus, reveal how the terrorist
Chérif Kouachi got hold of the fake products. It was a
piece of cake by simply ordering the products online,
which represented values of some hundred US dollars
each, directly purchased from Chinese producers of
counterfeits.
Deliveries were made by mail service to divers addresses
in particular to a certain quarter in the outskirts of Paris.
The French counter-terrorism expert Jean-Charles Brisard
has investigated this case. He is telling us that Kouachi
