Confronted with external pressures such as the shift in U.S. trade policy, reciprocal tariffs, exchange rate fluctuations, and stagflation, the industry must rethink its resilience and competitiveness. However, Taiwan, leveraging its outstanding manufacturing technology and innovation capabilities, continues to maintain steady growth in major markets including the U.S., Japan, and China. From January to October 2025, export value reached approximately 1.341 billion USD, with a year-on-year growth rate close to 5%, still demonstrating robust fundamental strength. To adapt to the changes in the global market, Taiwan’s sports industry actively promotes digital transformation and technology applications, integrating artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and big data to create personalized and intelligent sports products and services. According to projections, the global sports technology market will exceed 90.5 billion USD by 2032, with a compound annual growth rate of 15%, positioning Taiwan at the forefront of this wave of innovation.

According to the WFSGI report, physical inactivity continues to affect over 1.8 billion adults and the majority of adolescents, becoming a leading risk factor for non-communicable diseases and placing enormous pressure on the global economy. Studies indicate that by 2030, physical inactivity will cause economic losses exceeding 300 billion USD, which is not only a health alarm but also a structural problem that industries and governments urgently need to overcome together. As a key driver of the sports goods industry, we deeply understand our responsibility and mission to lower barriers to exercise and popularize sports equipment. WFSGI CEO Emma Zwiebler emphasizes that this initiative on health and wellbeing is also a critical battle concerning economic and social cohesion. During the events, Taiwan-made sports equipment, sporting apparel, and outdoor gear were widely used at the various competition venues. This fully demonstrated the capabilities of Taiwan’s industries in innovative designs, excellent quality, and specialized services, thereby winning unanimous praise from the international athletes and media, while enabling the “Made in Taiwan” label to again symbolize quality and reliability. As the global sports and recreational industry has flourished and market demand has continued to rise in recent years, the International Trade Administration (TITA) continues to promote diverse plans to expand global markets by organizing groups to attend overseas exhibitions, inviting international buyers to come to Taiwan for procurements, enhancing image promotion, and strengthening marketing channels for brands. These products have linked with various international competitions, such as the World Baseball Classic (WBC) and the Tour de Taiwan, while digital marketing and media exposure have showcased Taiwan’s industrial prowess and innovative image to sports fans around the world. Over the years, the Taiwan Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (TSMA) has pursued the objectives of “being service-oriented and promoting Taiwan’s manufacturing” by actively organizing delegations to attend international exhibitions and helping businesses expand into overseas markets. WFSGI Mrs. Emma Zwiebler WFSGI CEO wfsgi.org Reflecting on a turbulent 2025, the positive power of the sporting goods industry, and the need to work together to empower health and economic productivity by making sports and physical activity affordable and accessible to all, is more evident than ever. Over the past year, the sporting goods industry has faced economic volatility, geopolitical tensions, a move away from multilateralism, and evolving consumer behaviour presenting both opportunities and challenges. However, facing this uncertain trading environment has encouraged us to double down on collaboration and teamwork across our industry, especially in the areas of public affairs and advocacy. In 2025, the WFSGI convened its first Public Affairs and Advocacy Summit in Washington D.C. bringing member companies and national and regional trade associations together to begin work on building a global industry narrative and a mapping of priority stakeholders and bodies for WFSGI to engage with to help position our industry for future growth and success, despite the economic headwinds. As the industry that moves the world, we know we have a unique value proposition for societies and economies around the globe. It’s this commitment to growing movement, physical activity and sport, that was at the heart of two milestone moments for

The launch of our first ever sporting goods industry Physical Activity Impact Report at a World Health Assembly Side Event in Geneva in May, followed by another industry-first event at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York in September on the sidelines of a pivotal debate on the High-Level Political Declaration on health policy for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) The inaugural WFSGI Physical Activity Impact Report, ‘Moving the World Towards an Active Future’ featured 26 WFSGI member companies. Their inspiring and empowering case studies highlighted Campaigns That Move, how we are Energising Communities, our commitment to Healthy Workplaces, and how we continue Innovating For Impact. It’s thanks to companies like those in the TSMA network that our industry continues to innovate in product design, materials and manufacturing techniques enabling consumers around the world to move more for their physical and mental health. The benefits of physical activity as a health-enhancing and cost-effective solution to the growing number of people suffering from NCDs is now being recognised by governments around the globe following UNGA 80. It’s imperative that action is taken quickly with 500 million people predicted to fall into ill health as a direct result of physical inactivity at a cost of 300 billion U.S. Dollars by 2030 if physical activity levels stay as they are. That’s not just a global health risk, it’s a risk to future growth of our industry. We now look forward to sharing our expertise and insights with governments and other public and private bodies with the goal of accelerating the implementation of the WHO Global Action Plan on Physical Activity (GAPPA). 34 2026 TSMA The Profile Founded in 1972, the Taiwan Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (TSMA) serves as a leading representative body for Taiwan’s sporting goods industry, comprising approximately 300 member enterprises. The Association plays a central role in connecting local manufacturers with government agencies, global industry organizations such as the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) and the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA), and other trade fair organizers. Over the past five decades, TSMA has actively supported its members in expanding into overseas markets through participation in major global exhibitions, such as TaiSPO, FIBO, ISPO, Japan Sports Week, SPORTEC, etc. The Association also provides comprehensive industry intelligence, including quarterly market updates through Sports Impact (in Mandarin) and the annual English sourcing guide TSMA Sourcing Directory, designed specifically for international buyers. In addition, TSMA publishes detailed annual statistical reports on Taiwan’s sporting goods imports and exports, categorized by product type and destination market.
