86 2020 Taiwan Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association The structure of the health and sports service industry According to the 2019 reports published by Research and Markets, the global spor t industrial output will be increased in value by 5.9% in one year until 2022, that is, the industrial value will be 614.1 billion US dollars. Besides, Research2Guidance has conducted surveys from 2010 onwards with more than 15,000 participants who are working in sports and health innovation service industry. There are more than 100,000 interviews with these industrial decision makers. In the past decade, there are more sports innovation service companies founded annually. The ratio of traditional sports and health service enterprises is about 32%. And the major products are medical equipment, medicine production, health insurance and hospital. It is worth noticing that the ratio of the mobile health, intelligence applications, IT tech companies and incubator and technology innovation companies is going upward year by year and reaches 45%. With closer observation, taking intelligence applications as examples, till 2017, there are more 80,000 developers get involved in the industry. As estimated, the applications released on the market are more than 325,000. The number of downloading is over 3.5 billion times. If we count the new innovation business, just in the whole year of 2016, the new startup capital investment in the sports and health industry is more than 5.4 billion US dollars. The related items before A-round investment is 56%. It indicates that sports and health innovation service industry has an active development now and would be promising in the near future. Observing the status quo in Taiwan, according to the study reports published by the Sports Administration, under the Ministry of Education in 2018, the total number of the population who are doing regular sports in 33.4%; if counted those who are doing sports randomly or have a rather low participation of sports, our sports population would go up to 58.2%. Among them, those above 60 years old is more than 70%. And according to the 2016 Industry, Commerce and Service Census, the gross output of Taiwan’s sports service industry is 141.7 billion NT dollars. If the connecting value of its upstream and downstream value chain, the total economic revenue of the whole industry is 257.1 billion NT dollars. Among the products, the sports products and equipment as well as the retail industry perform the best at the market. The others related industries like sports management service and sports stadium are also important contributors to the whole industrial output.
