2020 TSMA

30 2020 Taiwan Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association The global sports market has continued to grow in recent years due to health, digital fitness and environmental awareness. For example, adults aged 18–64 should get at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity (for example: dancing, gardening, hiking, swimming) every week according to the World Health Organization. One of the famous market research firms, The NPD Group, Inc. reported that the sporting goods industry increased 7% in 2018 and will be worth $626.8 billion by 2023. Also, Taiwan’s sporting goods industry had an export growth rate of over 13% from January to August in 2019. NPD stated that the United States still leads the global sports market (32.5%), followed by China (12.7%) and Japan (4.6%). To promote Taiwan’s high-valued product and cross-industry innovation, TSMA host the “Innovation Award Com- petition” of 2019 TaiSPO. The award-winning entry will be displayed at the “Inno- vation Award” zone and published in TaiSPO 2020 publications to assist sports companies in promoting high quality designs in Taiwan, such as smart gym equipment, smart blue tooth bike meter etc. I believe that TSMA will continue to accompany us to identify potential market opportunities around the world. The Yearbook will also be the key guiding ele- ment of Taiwan’s sporting goods industry and point us toward embracing a ‘blue ocean strategy’. On behalf of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, I extend my deepest gratitude to TSMA on the release of the 2020 Yearbook. Walter M.S. Yeh President & CEO Taiwan External Trade Development Council
