TSMA Yearbook 2019

30 2019 Yearbook complex store” in June of 2018, indicating massive potential business opportunities. In addition, the first-ever diving hotel in Asia, “Divecube”, was inaugurated in Taichung in February of 2018, allowing diving to become an easily accessible sport for all, which is definitely a new way of thinking in the sports industry. In terms of product improvement, smart sports has become a new trend, and the promotion of 5G technologies will bring new demands and business opportunities at the consumer-end for innovative and smart IoT applications. Thanks to the superb development of embedded computation technologies in a relatively short time, “smart wearable devices” will enjoy the most market potential in the coming year. The government has also proactively sought integration across fields and moved towards the direction of smart sports. In addition, the rise of green technologies and proactive R&Ds by businesses that seek to create fitness products that can generate electricity, save energy, and reduce carbon emissions, are bringing new business opportunities for smart energy-saving and carbon emission-reduction products. The direction of the sports industry development we see now, including adding value through innovation and service creation, happens to be identical with the devel- opment projects formulated by the Executive Yuan, e.g. the “Smart Machines”, “Green Technologies”, and “2017-2015 Digital Nation and Innovative Economies” included in the “5+2 Industry Innovation Project”. The government will continuously promote the industry’s smart upgrading and provide assistance to SMEs in enhancing the level of automation in their production lines, with the goal of businesses using sensors to con- nect information from both the production side and sales side to upgrade in a smart and innovative fashion so as to grasp market changes in a timely fashion and satisfy non-massive quantity tailor-made demands. We expect that, through a joint effort be- tween the government and businesses, Taiwan can achieve a deeper, more innovative economy based on the core idea of forward-looking smart technology improvement and sustainable businesses. Together we will market Made-In-Taiwan products to the entire world, ensure that Taiwan becomes more competitive in the world, and achieve the vision of a digital nation as well as a smart island.
