32 2018 Yearbook Taiwan’s exports of sporting goods for the past 3 years have consecutively surpassed US$1.7 billion. Its production of outdoor and fitness equipment as well as high-end sporting goods is renowned worldwide, while the Made in Taiwan (MIT) image of high-quality products is highly favored by foreign buyers. As the population ages, people are paying more attention to LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability), thereby driving a demand for personal fitness equipment and compelling the sporting and leisure industries to advance into mainstream industries, which in turn has created industrial values that cannot be ignored. In addition, the 2017 Summer Universiade, hosted by Taipei, not only launched a domestic frenzy for athletic competition and boosted commercial opportunities for sporting goods, it also attracted many international athletes and broadcasting companies to Taiwan and gave the world significant opportunities to focus on Taiwan. Established 45 years ago, the Taiwan Sporting Goods Manufacturers’ Association (TSMA) boasts over 300 members, promotes sound operations, and gives impetus to a thriving business. Over the years, the TSMA has actively made full use of communications and connections as a bridge between the government and businesses, often conducting professional workshops and seminars, organizing trade delegations to participate in exhibitions abroad, attending all Jen-Ni Yang Director General Bureau of Foreign Trade
