120 2018 Yearbook c.Some Taiwanese manufacturers have conducted Industry 4.0 to a considerable degree There are more than 180 Taiwan manufacturers investing in the perception layer, internet layer and applied service layer of IoT. The output value is about 115 billion dollars. Digiwin Software and Advantech have achieved the smart factory solution on the IoT. Two companies also initiated an intelligent manufacturing integration alliance. All participating enterprises will be devoted to establish an ecosystem of intelligent manufacturing. The controller of Advantech monitors the machine tool for the custom-made Harley Davidson motorcycle and prevent the machine failure. Additionally, from 2016 onwards, Advantech began cooperating with Intel, Microsoft and Mitsubishi and other international brands to push IoT and factory automation solutions to the world. 4. Government policies a. Executive Yuan formulates the Productivity 4.0 initiative Executive Yuan passed two four-year Productivity 4.0 initiatives in September 2015. The initiative is set to take off in 2017 and continue to 2024. The preliminary plan was started from October 2015 up to the end of 2016. The program planned to invest 36 billion dollars in nine years, and the budget can be increased. Taiwan Productivity 4.0 Initiative includes 6 major strategies, targeting three major applications of the intelligent manufacturing, service and agriculture. Because large enterprises face the fierce international grabbing order, they are aware of the need for and actually transform to Industry 4.0. Thus, Taiwan Productivity 4.0 policy focuses on Mittlestand and small-and-medium enterprises. In order to develop IoT applied technology, in October 2015 the Ministry of Economic Affairs signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Microsoft together with more than 30 domestic companies such as Acer, Mediatek and Advantech, etc. to establish an IoT Industrial Development Center which focuses on five major industries, including manufacturing, medical care, housing, intelligent retail and public service.
