TSMA Yearbook 2018

102 2018 Yearbook Under the currents of low fertility and quick ageing, the working age population from 15 to 64 years old reaches 74.2% in 2012. Afterwards, it starts falling. The working age population in 2015 grows up to 17.37 million of people. In 2016, the number also declines (see Diagram 5). Moreover, since Taiwanese labors usually leave home early and get back very late and the working-age people become aged, the labor supply as predicted will shrink. Compared internationally, Taiwan is still at the labor-sufficient stage. However, in 2060, we will face the same conditions as Japan and Korea, ranked as low-labor-supply countries (Diagram 6). Therefore, in order to solve the problems of shortage and ageing of labor force, we highly suggest to continuously construct proper labor environment, and enlarge the pool of labor force, and furthermore, to enhance their professional skills and capabilities as well.
